Day to day

A home that is easier to move around in

Housekeeping is the part of home care that sounds least important and is often the most practical. In a home where someone has become less steady, the state of the floor is not a matter of appearance. It is the difference between a route through a room and an obstacle course.

Tidying is mostly a movement question

The things that matter most are the ones on the way between places: the bag left in the hallway, the trailing cable, the rug that has stopped lying flat, the box that was put down by the stairs and has stayed there. None of them is untidy enough to notice. All of them are in the way.

Keeping those paths clear — bed to bathroom, chair to kitchen, front door to hallway — does more for someone’s confidence at home than a spotless kitchen ever will.

What it covers

Light housekeeping means keeping the home tidy, comfortable and safe to move around in: the everyday upkeep that stops a house drifting, done alongside whatever else the visit is for. Laundry that has stopped happening. Surfaces in the kitchen. The bathroom. The bins.

And what it does not

It is not a deep clean, and it is not maintenance. Ladders, heavy furniture, anything structural and anything involving a contractor are all outside what a caregiver is there to do. Being clear about that line is more useful than being vague and generous about it, because a household that expects one thing and gets another has had a bad experience even when the work was good.
